Leukemia Fundraising Holiday Party!
On November 18, 2017, the 4th annual Metro Store #106 fundraiser for Leukemia took place at Melanie Pringles restaurant in Whitby.
Executive board member, long-time steward, and dedicated activist Colleen Cox hosted this amazing night. Attendees enjoyed great food, prizes, friends and lots of dancing!
Each year, Sister Cox volunteers as a Metro Leukemia payroll deduction coordinator for her store where she asks her fellow retail workers to sign up for the Leukemia payroll deduction program. As Metro #106 was one of the top three stores for sign-ups last year, they won $1000. The money was put towards the annual Holiday Party.
This year there were approximately 100 people in attendance who helped raise $2,295! This money will be donated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada towards research to end blood cancers. Members from Bowmanville, Scarborough and the Durham region attended with their union sisters, brothers and friends.
We would like to extend a special thank you to Colleen for her hard work and dedication to this worthy cause. Of course thank you as well to all the members and friends who attended the event for your support. We look forward to next year’s festivities!
